"TEREN" [TERRAIN] is a year-long research and artistic programme of the Pracownia Wschodnia Gallery in which we explore the meaning of „terrain” as a space of creative, communal and experimental activity. The programme's slogan points to material and symbolic rootedness – a place where art can act independently, over the long term and in dialogue with the community.
Four exhibitions will take place within the programme:
Pnąca, czworokanciasta [Climbing, Four-Cornered]
a kind of report on field research conducted by the artist and biologist Krystyna Jędrzejewska-Szmek.
Ćwiczenia z podzwyczajności [Exercises in the Sub-Ordinary]
a performative exhibition examining the body, norms and everyday "choreographies",
Zbieractwo [Hoarding]
an exploration of compulsive accumulation as a response to the trauma of the present,
Podłoga [The Floor]
an installation transforming the gallery floor into a field of artistic experience.
Each event is preceded by a period of research: conversations with experts, formal experiments and analysis of spatial contexts. The programme combines visual art, movement, theory and social practice – building a field of collaboration between artists, researchers, educators and the people who live in Warsaw. It will be accompanied by a series of public events, workshops and publications within the "POST" series – a free art zine made in the workshop space of Pracownia Wschodnia.
The programme is co-funded by the City of Warsaw
