EX
EX is an exhibition combining photography, video and spatial forms, in which the main material is dust – treated both as a material and as a repository of memory and traces of presence. From this matter emerge forms that refer to the world of plants, to the body, to domestic space, and to the wider circulation of matter in nature.
Some of the works present models, built by the artist herself, of plants that once grew in Poland and are today considered extinct – marked with the abbreviation EX and described in the Polish Red Book of Plants. Others take on a more universal character, focusing on disappearance, order, cyclicality and transformation – as processes common to organic life and everyday experience.
The project juxtaposes ordering and endurance, disappearance and transformation – in the spirit of a reflection that in nature nothing disappears completely, but changes its form.
The exhibition premiered in 2025 at the Centre of Contemporary Art in Toruń, under the patronage of the Institute of Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Iga Mroziak
Visual artist and photographer.
Mroziak's work has an emotional and psychological dimension and encompasses above all photography, but also drawing, poetry, film, sculpture and installations.
Her works are based on observation of her surroundings. They are a record of events, experiences and reflections, which gives them the character of a diary. In her creative practice the artist explores the areas where memory and matter interpenetrate. Her attention is drawn to the specific properties of various, often overlooked or unwanted materials, such as dust. With their help she reflects on transience, cyclicality and permanence.
She graduated in Romance philology from the University of Warsaw and in linguistics from the Université Bordeaux Montaigne in France. She is currently studying photography at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań. A graduate of the Nikon-NOOR Academy (2022) and the Sputnik Photos mentoring programme (2022-2023).
Winner of the award of the director of the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Toruń in the competition Wystaw się w CSW 2024 with the solo exhibition EX in April 2025 (exhibition under the patronage of the Institute of Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences); winner of the international photography competition The Human Element 2024 organised by TIME magazine and the American Society of Media Photographers; finalist of the Photon's Different Worlds 2023 competition with an exhibition at the Photon Gallery Centre for Contemporary Photography in Ljubljana.
In 2023 she published her first artist's book, I did not plan to stop there but. Co-founder of the collective Hydroza – a group of contemporary women visual artists whose work focuses on exploring the relationships between gender, nature and environmental justice.
She has exhibited her work in Poland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Serbia and Italy.
