The concrete matter, found and unchanging, has been cooled in the images by the artist's decision, which heightens the sense of distance. If people appear, it is only as foreign elements – in motion, avoiding gazes, the controlling eyes of power and the scorching sun.
The city, though made by humans, seems to be pushing out their presence.
Maria Książek – born in 1974 in Warsaw. Master of Civil Engineering from the Warsaw University of Technology, exhibition designer. From childhood she trained in figure skating as a soloist and in classical dance at the Torwar arena in Warsaw with the RKS Marymont club. She also performed in Gawęda, the representative artistic ensemble of the Polish Scouting Association. For 30 years she has been the owner of the interior design studio GocaDesign.
She is a graduate of the Academy of Photography in Warsaw and the ZPAF Study Programme. She is currently a student at the Institute of Creative Photography of the Silesian University in Opava. Since 2025 she has been a member of the Association of Polish Art Photographers.
In photography she uses two radically different means of expression: creative photography and reportage, analogue and digital photography, monochrome images as well as colour, the aesthetics of error as well as digital processing, searching for the means of expression that suits her to tell a story.
She focuses on people, their emotions, actions, searches and the memory they leave behind. Her work has been shown in many exhibitions. For her, photography is a way of getting to know people and their stories.
