Yellow, blue, red, white. Pennants, a podium, confetti, cheers. At the exhibition you will be able to see works made from the very beginning of the Covid-19 Speedway League. The project started at the beginning of the pandemic, which already seemed a catastrophe then. Its summing-up takes place in times that are even harder for us. Like previous editions, it will consist of Speedway Poetry (poems read by, among others, fans, Justyna Chowaniak, Organek and Rudanacja), Prasawarasa – prints pressed at the Gdańsk Shipyard with the help of a Jeep, at Gdańsk Airport with the help of a Turbolet L-410 aircraft, and with bicycles at Warsaw's Dynasy. The whole is completed by more than 60 sketches and stencils. A four-place podium and a tattooed driver's seat should bring closer an abstract story about loneliness, ambition, failure, pressure, winning, nervously going round in circles and trouble sleeping. The exhibition will be bound together by the author's account of this process and the music created over the course of the whole project by Kudłak, Michał Bryndal, Cezary Ostrowski, Homo Faber, Tomasz Januchta and Jerzy Wołowicz. A single round of applause will sound in the background; the rest will be covered by smoke and black confetti. On 26 April at 20:30 the improv duo STOP (Tomasz Januchta double bass, Stefan Kornacki text/vocals) will perform in the exhibition space, and over the course of the whole exhibition a self-portrait of the artist will be made on a car seat by Ewa, an artist and fan from Częstochowa.

About the Covid 19 Speedway League

The idea for the Covid19 Speedway League project came about in April 2020.

Making use of the fact that the speedway season had been cancelled, I decided to do a livestream and paint speedway riders in collaboration with Warsaw's Galeria Śmierć Frajerom. The idea turned out to be a hit, the paintings were sold – it saved my skin in the first phase of the pandemic. On 26 February 2021, in collaboration with the Tricity collective Kolektyw Pogoda, I put on the first exhibition, entitled "Taśma" [Tape], in the management building of the Imperial Shipyard, a continuation of the project. The exhibition consisted of more than 40 works – prints, paintings and drawings. The whole was completed by the "Speedway Poetry" I wrote. I first carried out the idea of pressing prints with a car (a Jeep) on the shipyard grounds [Prasawarasa]. The music for the exhibition was created by Michał Bryndal (drummer of the band WW), Cezary Ostrowski (Bexa Lala) and Homo Faber. On 19 August 2021 at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport we opened the exhibition [w,0,0,w] Effect [in speedway scoring the letter "w" means exclusion and zero the last, pointless position, so it is one of the worst possible results]. The exhibition consisted of 3 elements: Prasawarasa, this time made at the airport with the help of a Turbolet L-410 aircraft (piloted by Captain Tadeusz Kołaszewski), and Speedway Poetry, read by: Justyna Chowaniak, Filip Rudanacja Antonowicz, Tomasz Organek, Karol Schwarz, Stefan Kornacki and fans of Gdańsk speedway. The exhibition stood at the central point of the airport hall.

Stefan Kornacki

A multimedia artist. Vocalist and lyricist of the duo Stop and the group Ser Charles, laureate of the "Talenty Trójki" awards given by Polish Radio Programme 3 in the visual arts category, honoured with the title "Kulturysta" awarded by Radiowy Dom Kultury, a graduate in graphic arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. He is currently working on the Inscription Project (a series of installations and actions in urban space using dismantled signs and neons), Local News – an action on the borderline of socially engaged and critical art – one of the actions, "Nie stawiajcie mi pomników" [Don't Build Me Monuments], could be seen in the acclaimed Czech film "Jak Bóg szukał Karela" [How God Searched for Karel]. He seeks a new space for poetry in the projects Szerokości and Wiersze dla Biegaczy [Poems for Runners]. His works have been shown in Poland, Portugal, Germany, Estonia, Ukraine and India, among other places; he carries out projects together with the Tricity collective Kolektyw Pogoda. On a daily basis he works as a graphic designer with, among others, "Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny". He lives and works in Warsaw.
