“Once upon a time? Far, far away? The Vistula is not seven rivers, and the escarpment is not seven mountains. Beyond its tamed side, Warsaw also has an untamed one, where the laws of nature apply. Nighttime quiet hours do not apply when feelings are involved. Passion and unpredictability offer a simultaneous touch of deep darkness and unconditional delight, just like in a fairytale. The show is the sum of personal perspectives, emotions and reflections in which myths related to identity and memory resonate.

Why a fairytale? Because, unlike myths, it is a story that holds the promise of a happy ending. And let's stick to that.”

The exhibition “Okolica” (Neighbourhood) is a survey of works by selected artists associated with the Praga-Północ district. The exhibition is curated by two artists whose lives are inextricably interwoven with this part of Warsaw – it was here that their great-grandparents and grandparents lived, and here that their childhoods took place. Memories and stories heard in family homes gradually took on an oniroid, almost fairytale character.
