The first stage of the creative process takes place in Warsaw, and then the result is sent to Yoshida in Japan. Further processing takes place there. The works, enriched with calligraphy, return to Poland. This is a coupling of two creative personalities: a Japanese artist — Masafumi Koshio, and a Polish artist — Olgierd Zbychorski. In this unconventional, intercontinental and intercultural creative dialogue, one can see a great passion for creation — a interplay between abstraction and a concrete vision, a desire to meet gesture and sign. The first form presented at the exhibition Isshin is miniature Instax instant photography — experiments with the medium itself and the light-sensitive emulsion contained in the film packs of this type of camera. It is a combination of gesture, intended and uncontrolled effects, and errors, results provoked by various forms of exposing the film itself, e.g., exposing it to full sun or keeping it in the dark. Finally, the works were completed through interpretation and dialogue — handwritten calligraphy by a master from distant Nippon.

The second instalment of Isshin features minimalist, abstract graphic forms obtained through the technique of so-called motusgraphy — scanning graphic elements in motion — being an afterimage of graphics, an "immortalisation" of movement. The effect is the result of craftsmanship and an accidental gesture. The first creator introduces the constituent elements of calligraphy — line and point, in a digitally modified painterly gesture. On the other hand, the master of calligraphy appears with his contemplativeness of creation, interaction, respect for an already created element of the artwork, and its interpretation.

The exhibition ISSHIN at Galeria Pracownia Wschodnia presents compositions in various configurations: individually, but also as diptychs, triptychs, etc. Miniatures and larger format works.

Masafui Koshio (JPN)

Hailing from and living in Shizuoka.

Master and leader of a calligraphy school. President of the international association for the promotion of calligraphy Ichijikai. Performer of large-format calligraphy — creates in collaboration with musicians as well as dancers. He is also a landscape designer — Japanese gardens. He began learning calligraphy at the age of seven. From an early age, he sought to understand the foundations of Japanese arts: the "way" and the beauty of balance and disproportion. In 2021, he established the Ichijikai association, which also operates in Europe. "What will you experience in calligraphy? What will you do with calligraphy?" — Ichijukai is primarily intended to promote calligraphy around the world. An important stage in his creative path was meeting Agnieszka Yokoe — a translator and promoter of Japanese culture in Poland, and Olgierd Zbychorski, with whom collaboration helped him find his new, European "way". In recent years, his works have been presented at exhibitions in Japan, China, Mongolia, as well as in Poland and Lithuania.

Graduate of the University of Gdańsk. Author of articles on visual identity, applied graphics and colour perception. Curator of modern painting exhibitions. Professionally associated with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute for several years. Passionate about graphic design, photography, and author of a weekly music broadcast presenting broadly understood electronic music and world music.
