Pracownia Wschodnia is an independent artist collective. We run an artist-run space unique on Warsaw's art map, built on the grassroots initiative of artists working across the visual arts.
Our foundation is two strands of activity. The first is cultural animation: organising events for a wide audience, running a gallery and art courses, publishing. The second is building a workshop base that lets local artists develop their own creative practice.
Pracownia Wschodnia is a non-profit organisation. It would not exist without the commitment and ground-up work of the people who make up the collective. Each of us has our own practice, some of us teach at various universities or work for a range of institutions, but we believe that by joining forces we can achieve more together, both for local culture and in the field of art.
Malwina Nahorny
Biography
A visual artist born in 1984 in Bydgoszcz.
A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
She continued her art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She lives and works in Warsaw and in Masuria. A member of the Pracownia Wschodnia Association in the Screen Printing Department.
She collaborates artistically on a variety of projects. She runs classes, workshops and artistic mentoring. She makes watercolour and easel painting, screen prints, digital art and video art. She works mainly with organic, symbolic and geometric abstraction. She has held group and solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Her works are held in private collections in Poland and abroad.
She is represented by Piękna Gallery in Warsaw.
Nahorny creates series and processes based on the phenomena of illusion arising from the psychophysiology of vision, reflecting, among other things, on cultural atavisms, the experience of corporeality, relationships with nature and questions of identity.
In her practice she uses elements such as salt, ash, activated charcoal, worn-out tools, pollen of organic origin, dust and hair.
